It’s fair to say I have an unhealthy obsession with this track by The System, only to randomly find this video today. Have you ever seen a keyboardist trying so hard to make this look cool: jamming with one hand on a qwerty keyboard with a green-screen and waveform display? Long live synthesis!

Incidently, (cue self-promo jingle) I dropped this track in a midtempo classics mix I did exclusively for the excellent and diverse (and now defunct) DeepSoul3 website. My “In My System mix” is linked there about the third mix down in the list. Updated with new link:

Here’s a UPDATED direct link to my mix at a new site, re-saved at higher 256kbps quality.

Huge tip to the sterling Mr. Chris Edwards over at DeepSoul3 for making the connection, and supporting the diverse mood mixes! Also I give them huge props for hosting the mixes themselves, we know as much as you do that bandwith CO$TS and the traffic they must get on some of these must be massive. My mix went live a couple months ago, so proper blogwise thanks is long overdue :) Chris sorry we miss ya! Come back…

UPDATE FEB. 2009 - Sadly, DeepSoul3 site is down and no word on if any of the mixes will be back online.  But good news, the excellent Sound+ offered to host the mix for me, and I re-rendered it at a higher quality [256kbp] for them.  DOWNLOAD IT HERE.

Love this song - just downloading your mix.

I’m now practicing looking cool typing on my keyboard.

    Memory Control One - Basic - Crash - 1984
    Natasha King - AM-FM - Emergency - 1983

    solid. so strong.

I was just going to comment on AM-FM! Great selection.

I’m also going to go out on a limb in my love of “In My System” — that song is so strong it even works for Robert Palmer.

yeah the robert palmer version is also dope. in fact, he also did a good job with cherrelle’s “i didn’t mean to turn you on”. but my forreal system jam is “it’s passion”, i love that one even more!

Thanks. I think what i like about the song (and as a broader inspiration for the mix) is that is that great midtempo range. Not quite a ballad, and not a pumping uptempo dance jam… yet it combines both. It’s got the smoldering obsesssed-with-you love vibe, with the hyper-computerized synthetic sounds to contrast.

    I’ll check out “it’s passion”

    Hi Matt
What has happened to the site with this mix?

  7. 7 MacQ

    Hi Ralph,
hey thanks for the nudge. It was time i updated this post. No word from anyone at DeepSoul3 what happened, it’s no long longer online. Too bad, there were so many good mixes and interviews up there.

I just updated the post above with new link to the file over at Sound+. Download the mix directly (now at higher bitrate) from http://sound.modelfruit.com/sets/matt_macqueen_._in_my_system_deepsoul3.mp3

If I hear anything back from Chris or others at DeepSoul3 I’ll append the post.. “seems all good things never last”
